Once again, the Bolton contingent of Bass Week did a fine job of representing our club both on and off the water. Trophies and glasses were plentiful, along with excellent alcoholic beverage prizes (next party is at the Flitcroft’s house!). Some were also noted for their dancing prowess in the evening entertainment. David and Lesley maintained their usual professional high standards in true Astaire and Rogers fashion, with Sue giving them a ‘run for their money’; whilst Zena continued her slightly less professional fling around the dance floor, demonstrating the co-ordination and finesse of Olive Oyl. Even Andy Flitcroft made an appearance on the dance floor! Whatever the moves and grooves, the week was about enthusiasm, competition, fun and friends, which we had in abundance.

This week has brought great weather and some superb wind, with just a couple of really strong, gusty days for those who like it a bit more challenging. As always, Bassenthwaite Lake is a stunning place to sail and the hospitality from Bassenthwaite Sailing Club is second to none.

Congratulations go to Andy and Sue for retaining the Graduate Northern Championships title for the second consecutive year; and to Mark and Tom Platt for securing a podium finish in the RNLI Pursuit.

Next year’s Bass Week runs from 5th – 13th August, so check your diary for a fabulous week of great racing and family fun. Bass Week should be on every grown-up’s Bucket List, and every child’s ‘must’ before they leave school.

Official photographs of the week can be found at http://www.benunwinphotography.co.uk/Bass-Week-2016 from 10th August 2016.

Thanks to John Moulton for photographs of Bolton Sailing Club on tour, and Zena Martin for the report.
