On a very sad day we learn that the club has lost Dennis Shevelan.
Dennis joined the club with wife Kathleen in 1987 and has been a member of various committees almost ever since. He has been the club captain since 1996 with the unenviable tasks of compiling OOD list and allocating berths on the dinghy park. A qualified instructor since 1996, Dennis has spent many a Friday night training the youngest members in optimists as well as teaching on RYA courses and training Learning Disability students from PCHS. For the past 10 years Dennis was the clubs joint Bosun, keeping the place going in-between race days. Many will have seen him sat in his campervan, pulling all-nighters at the 24 Hour Race keeping track of lap times and keeping the supply of tea going.
For all his efforts, Dennis was awarded an RYA Community Award in November 2013.
He will be very sadly missed by all members of the club and our thoughts go to his family.
The funeral will take place at 12 noon on Friday, 28th April at St John Fisher Church, Manchester Road, Kearsley, Bolton, BL4 8QQ, then to East Lancashire Crematorium, Cemetery Road, Radcliffe M26 4EU.
Please pass on our condolences to Kath Shevelan. The sad news of his death reminds us of a fun guy, a very enjoyable cruising week at Carnac and his success in the “International Race”.
Kind Regards, Norman & Jean Day, Prestwick S.C.
