Just had a call from the United Utilities Project Engineer who advised that the Government Panel Engineer has visited Belmont Reservoir this week and reviewed the outstanding action for the completion of the Spillway project. Great news he has given his authority for the refilling of the reservoir to be commenced. Initially it will be refilled to within the one and a half metre below full mark and held there for 2 weeks to make sure that everything is ok with the Dam wall and the new spillway. Following a further check to confirm that everything is ok, the reservoir will be completely filled with excess water flowing over the Spillway.
It would seem this clearance to refill the reservoir has come just at the right time, with south-westerly winds bringing some periods of rain over the next week.
