“For the want of a nail the shoe was lost,
For the want of a shoe the horse was lost,
For the want of a horse the rider was lost,
For the want of a rider the battle was lost,
For the want of a battle the kingdom was lost,
And all for the want of a horseshoe-nail.”
Following to the tremendous success of all our juniors in the 12 hour race this year I write following discussions at the Sailing Committee both to say well done to everyone who took part and achieved one of our best overall results and to say a huge thank you to everyone behind the scenes who made it possible.
I know that the list of helpers who get an individual from their first sail into a successful race team is long and some members are more obvious than others but I particularly wanted to mention the trainers, coaches, galley crew and helpers in the Friday night team, those who provided boats, those who transported the boats, sailors and equipment to and from Southport, those who provided food, transport and somewhere to rest when not sailing and not to forget those who simply comforted tired sailors and those who turned up on the day to support and cheer them on.
Our success is down to all of them so I hope everyone will join me in saying a huge thank you – without their support the success would not have been possible.
