RYA Dinghy Level 1 & 2 Training 28 September & 5 October
All 12 places for the Adult Dinghy Course in May and June have now been filled. There will be another RYA Dinghy Course later in the year, on 28 September and 5 October for the Level 1 qualification.
Cost is £85

Can you help with the RYA Dinghy Level 1 & 2 Training in May and June?
All 12 places for the Adult Dinghy Course in May and June have now been filled. We could do with more volunteers to support the course. Even if it’s only to drive a powerboat or to be in a powerboat whilst someone else drives it! If you can also help rig the boat or coaching our new members on the water then that’s a bonus!

RYA Powerboat Level 1 & 2 Course, 13 & 14 July
There is just one place left on the RYA Level 1 & 2 Powerboat Courses on 13 & 14 July. Cost is £130
RYA Powerboat Level 1 & 2 is two courses rolled into one and the certificate is internationally recognised as a proof of a level of powerboating competence. At only £130 it is cheaper than just doing the level 1 part of the course at other venues (such as Plas Menai)!
RYA Powerboat Level 1 teaches you boating safety, boat handling and basic theory. After doing PB Level 1 you will have a basic understanding of powerboating.
RYA Powerboat Level 2 teaches you close quarters boat handling, planing speed manoeuvres, man overboard recovery and collision regulations. After doing PB Level 2 you will be able to handle a powerboat in familiar waters by day.
This is the last opportunity to do the powerboat course this year, so if you are interested in learning how to properly handle a powerboat let Andy Flitcroft know your availability via training@sail.org.uk
RYA SAFETY Boat Course, 9 & 10 November
There is just one place left on the RYA Safety Boat Courses on 9 & 10 November. Cost is £130
The course has a different syllabus to the powerboat course and teaches you recovery techniques for various craft and fleet management.

RYA Dinghy Instructor Course
Bolton SC is hosting a Dinghy Instructor Course in May this year. This course is now fully subscribed, but there are opportunities to do the course at other venues throughout the year. Please let Andy Flitcroft know if you would like to do this course via training@sail.org.uk
Everyone attending the must:
- Be 16 or over
- Be a RYA member
- Pass the on-line RYA First Aid Course
- Pass the on-line RYA Safe & Fun Course (about £10 – £15 and approximately 1 hr)
- Hold a RYA Powerboat Level 2 certificate.
- Successfully complete the associated prequalification day
RYA Powerboat Instructor Course
Would you like to become a powerboat instructor?
In order to keep putting on our own RYA Powerboat and Safety Boat courses without paying for external instructors, we need two or more members to become qualified as a powerboat instructors.

Singlehander Training Day
It may be possible to hold another singlehander training day later this year or next year if time and staffing permit, so if you missed it this time and/or would like to attend another such training session, let Andy Flitcroft know via training@sail.org.uk. Our intention is to improve the competitiveness of singlehanded sailors who race (or intend to start racing) on Wednesday nights and Sundays.
Do you need a crew or do you want to crew?
Do you need a crew? Even if it’s only for one day or just one race? There are plenty of new members who have attended/passed RYA Level 1 & 2 training and who would welcome the opportunity to crew as a way into racing… to helm if you prefer to crew yourself.
The noticeboard in the entrance hall (left hand side on entering) includes a Helm/Crew wanted page. Whether you are a helm in search of a crew or whether you want to offer your services as crew, put your name and contact details on the list so that people know you are available! Surely it’s better to get out there on the water than just watch or (worse) do something else instead!
Remember also that the first race each Sunday is intended to be a “coaching race”, so why not team-up with someone who needs coaching instead of sailing with your normal crew?
