Bolton Sailing Club  (“we”, “our” or “us”) respect your privacy and are committed to protecting it through compliance with this Data Protection and Privacy Policy (the “Policy”).

This Policy describes: (i) the types of information we may collect from you or that you may provide to us; and (ii) our practices for collecting, using, maintaining, protecting and disclosing that information. Keep in mind that Bolton Sailing Club will only use your Personal Information (defined below) for the purpose that it is provided to us (the “Purpose”). Bolton Sailing Club does not sell Personal Information to any third party.

This Policy applies to information we collect: through our website (; in email, text, and other electronic messages between you and us; through information and submissions that you provide to us, both online and offline; and when you interact with us through third-party websites and services (e.g., social networking providers) (collectively, the “Services”).

The When & The How: The Methods We Use to Collect Information

This is how we collect information from you when you use our Services:

You directly provide it to us. Some ways in which you do this are:

  • Membership registration;
  • Complete and submit online forms to us;
  • Correspond with us;
  • Respond to our surveys; or
  • Booking events and courses with us.

You indirectly provide it to us. The primary way that this occurs is through automatic data collection technologies that collect statistical (non-personal) information about your equipment, browsing actions and patterns to provide details about:

  • Resources accessed on the Services

The Why: What We Do with The Information We Collect

Bolton Sailing Club will only use and disclose your Personal Information for the purpose for which you have provided it to us as determined at the time of collection or through your subsequent consent, including:

  • Providing you with information, products or services that you request from us;
  • Managing our business operations (e.g., customer relationship management (CRM) system, opt-in marketing database, customer service and support system);
  • Performing and enforcing agreements;
  • Fulfilling any other purpose for which you provide the Personal Information;

Bolton Sailing Club will retain your Personal Information for as long as needed based on the purpose for which you have authorised us to use it.

The Where: The Places That We Store This Information

Personal Information may be processed in a country outside the country in which it is collected, including the United States, European Economic Area, and the European Union. Bolton Sailing Club uses the following third-party processors: Sailing Club Manager (for membership management); MailChimp (for email campaigns). Processors will only process the data as instructed by Bolton Sailing Club and are not allowed to process the data any further than necessary for the Purpose for which it was collected. In the event of any transfer outside of the European Economic Area/EU, such transfers take place in accordance with applicable European Union data protection rules under security conditions enabling the protection of the Personal Information.

In addition, some of the Services are served by third-parties. These third parties may use cookies alone or in conjunction with web beacons or other tracking technologies to collect information about you when you use our Services. The information they collect may be associated with your Personal Information or they may collect information, including Personal Information, about your online activities over time and across different websites and other online service. They may use this information to provide you with interest-based (behavioural) advertising or other targeted content. We do not control these third parties’ tracking technologies or how they may be used. For that reason, you should read the privacy policies of every service that you use. How Do We Respond to Do Not Track Signals?

We do not track you over time and across third party websites to provide targeted advertising. Therefore, we do not respond to Do Not Track (DNT) signals. Some third parties providing content and applications to the Services do respond to DNT signals and that will limit your access to the interactive features of the Services.

How To Limit Use and Disclosure of Your Information

We do not control third parties’ collection or use of your information to serve interest-based advertising. However, these third parties may provide you with ways to choose not to have your information collected or used in this way. How to Access, Correct, and Object to Processing of Your Information

Bolton Sailing Club aims to keep Personal Information accurate and up to date. In addition, you have the right to oppose to the processing of your Personal Information for direct marketing purposes. We may not accommodate a request to change information if we are unable to verify your identity or the change would violate an applicable law or regulation.
